They also discussed the challenges of leading this section and gave advice for new section council members.

Description: The Society of Actuaries (SOA) retained Milliman, Inc. (Milliman) to conduct a research project related to product innovation. This report explores key risks and considerations for product innovation using the long-term care insurance (LTC, LTCI) industry as a case study. We identify how actuaries of all backgrounds can apply the lessons learned, and challenges overcome, by the LTCI industry to improve future innovation, product development and risk management.

Description: The Society of Actuaries (SOA) delegation participated in the recent virtual council and committee meetings of the International Actuarial Association (IAA), with sessions scheduled from April 20 to May 12, 2020. While the virtual format of the spring meetings did reduce the number of sessions compared to the usual in-person meetings, the overall message continues to be that important collaborative work is being done by the global profession.

Description: Actuarial activity in Azerbaijan commenced in 2008 with the enactment of the insurance law. The Actuarial Association of Azerbaijan was created in that year. The insurance law prescribes an official roster of actuaries who qualify after passing an exam. There is also the position of “appointed actuary” who reports directly to the board of directors of the insurance company. However, due to the relatively fast development of the insurance market, there is an urgent need of qualified actuaries. Actuaries Without Borders and the International Actuarial Association have thus helped in the capacity building process. This article describes the workshop that was held in Baku, in December 2019.
